Mt. Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa, located in Northeast Tanzania, near the Kenya border. It is an extinct volcano, and world’s highest free-standing mountain at 5893 m.

Climbing Klimanjaro intrigues the climbers by its uniqueness. Its slopes are covered by a variety of vegetation as well as a variety of ecological systems. Plantations, mostly of coffee, for which Tanzania is famous for, cover its lowest slopes. Higher up lies a tropical rainforest, followed by heath, moor land, alpine deserts and the ice-capped summit.

Who Can Climb?

Climbing Mt.Kilimanjaro can be a perfect peak for your first high-altitude pursuit. The mountain is non-technical in nature and offers very little challenges. But, make no mistake. These little challenges can be super serious if not trained well before hand.Climbers are recommended to have an excellent level of fitness, which will form the foundation of not just this peak, but to all of their future climbing endeavors.

To make things easier for you, we’ve compiled a list of pre-requisites that are required to climb Mt.Kilimanjaro:

Physical Fitness:

Climbers are expected to have an exceptional level of physical fitness. Consistent, structured training specific to mountaineering over a period of 6-8 months will be an absolute requirement for anyone looking to climb this peak. One must be able to trek 6-8 hrs comfortably carrying a backpack weighing 10-15 kgs.

Mountaineering Experience:

Though prior mountaineering experience will be an added advantage, no specific mountaineering experience is required for climbing this peak.

Tentative Climbing Itinerary

Arrival in Kilimanjaro Team will be received at Kilimanjaro International Airport by our representative and will be taken to Hotel.
Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut (2,700 m): 5 – 6 hours walking.
After breakfast, team will drive from hotel to National Park gate and complete necessary formalities at the park gate. Team start the climb through fascinating tropical rain forest; Mandara hut would be our night halt. Rest and relax the beautiful forest around the camp.
Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut (3,720 m): 4 – 5 hours walking.
The first part of the walk is a steep ascent through forest, but the path soon opens out into moorland and, there are great views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. We reach at Horombo Hut by afternoon, where one can relax and enjoy the stunning scenery around the camp. Night halt
Horrombo Hut (Full board) – Acclimatization
Team will walk towards the Mawenzi hut for acclimatization, passing the Zebra Rocks and back to Horrombo hut.
Horrombo Hut to Kibo Hut (4,700 m.); 4 – 5 hours walking.
Today we climb very gradually towards the lunar desert of the Saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. These 6-7 hours walking will take at a slow pace until we reach Kibo Hut (4,700m), The remainder of the day is spent relaxing in preparation for the final ascent before a very early night.
Kibo Hut to Summit (Uhru) to Horombo Hut (3,720 m.):
Team will begin a steep climb over loose volcanic scree has some well-graded zig-zags and a slow but steady pace will take us to rim of the main crater, Gillman’s 5,685 m. From here it’s 3-hr round trip to the summit (Uhuru Peak). Soon after the summit, we descend to Horombo hut.
Horombo hut to Marangu Gate. (5 – 6 hours walking)
Team will descend past Mandara hut to Marangu National Park, successful climbers will receive their summit certificates. From here you will be transferred to Hotel for dinner and overnight.
Drop-off at the Airport.
After breakfast, team will be dropped at Kilimanjaro International Airport

    FAQs

    Yes, with proper training and preparation one can aspire to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro as their first peak.
    It totally depends on the previous training history and experience of the climber. Regular hikers having and excellent level of fitness can attempt this peak with minimum preparation. For an absolute novice, a minimum of 6-8 months of consistent preparation is required. Visit our ‘Training’ page for more info
    We would say that it’s a matter of personal preference. Climbing this mountain offers the a slightly different experience from each route. For example, the accommodation on the mountain in the Machame route is provided in tents, while it’s in the huts on the Marangu route.
    All team meals will be served during the designated meal times. However, our dining tent will always be well stocked with hot beverages, ready to eat food items during the entire duration of the climb
